Kindergarten - 3rd Grade

WEEK 1: England

10 MINUTES: boarding, picture station, and walk-in activity

  • ​"Boarding" is what we named the time used when children first arrive, line up behind their appropriate terminal, and have their book logs tallyed and stamped.

  • picture station: each week there was a different backdrop for kids to be photographed in front of.

  • walk-in activity: this included photos and facts to be passed around that pertained to that week's destination.

20 MINUTES: Tour Guide Update - each week we assembled an update for the country we were visiting

  • Weather - Nina

  • Language – Paige

    • Hold up flashcards displaying images of popular English slang and let audience guess what the word for each picture is.

    • Recite a few simple phrases with an English accent and ask the participants to mimic.

      • I love fairy cakes!

      • I’m going to ride the lift!

      • Where’s the loo?

  • Landmarks - Deb

30 MINUTES: Toilet Paper Roll Royal Guard

  • Supplies

    • Toilet paper rolls

    • Red construction paper squares

    • Black construction paper squares

    • Yellow construction paper rectangles

    • Google eyes

    • Black yarn pre-cut into lengths that will be used for pom-poms

    • Glue

    • Markers

  • Instructions – follow each step as a group

    • Show finished demonstration guard and talk about who they are, what they do, and why they cannot smile.

    • Hand out paper strips.

    • Glue black paper strip horizontally wrapped around the bottom.

    • Glue red paper strip horizontally wrapped on top of the black paper strip.

    • Glue the yellow strip vertically down the center of the red and black strips

    • Color in the top bare space to desired skin color.

    • Glue on two google eyes

    • Draw in a frown or simple line for a mouth.

    • Make the pom pom

      • Give each child a black yarn ball, a string, and a section of a paper towel roll.

      • Ask them to wind the whole ball of yarn loosely in one clump around the paper towel roll.

      • Slide the yarn blob off of the paper towel roll and tie the center with the extra string. Tie it as tightly as possible!

      • Cut all the loops to make a pom pom!

    • Draw a line of glue around the top edge of the toilet paper roll and set the pom pom on top and leave to dry.

    • Make sure names are on all craft projects!

 

15 MINUTES: Reading in the Gazeebo (We read inside due to rain)

  • Bella and Harry visit England

5 MINUTES: Snack - Fish and Chips 

  • Crinkle-Cut Potato Chips and Goldfish Crackers

WEEK 2: SPAIN

    • Revisit these words during the day to test their memory!
